As per a report, body aches accompanied with back stiffness after waking up is one of the most common complaint by working women’s. Unaware about the fact that the pain is caused due to medical condition called fibromyalgia. A condition, about which rarely anyone is aware. According to the study conducted, approximately 1.4 crore people in India suffer from this chronic pain disorder.
As stated by Dr Shalini Surendra Suralkar, Fibromyalgia is a medical condition, wherein individual experiences aches and pains all over the body, without any specific reason. People suffering through this disease likewise acquire tender points throughout their bodies. The specific points where frequent pain occurs are shoulders, neck, hips, back, arms and legs that hurt, on applying slight pressure.
Stress and high work is found to be the concrete reason behind this condition, says Jagdeesh. Additionally, unhealthy lifestyle, loneliness, emotional stress, and migration due to jobs, may also trigger the onset of this health disorder.
Musculoskeletal pain is the commonly reported symptom of fibromyalgia. The pain is encountered throughout the body. However, it majorly affects the neck, shoulder and back region. The condition is not restricted only till pain, but also induces other health issues like headaches, insomnia, memory problems, numbness, painful menstrual cycle, said Dr. Udaya Shankar.
The strange part is that, majority of the women are not aware about fibromyalgia and the symptoms associated to it, this is because the symptoms are over lapped with other condition. This makes it difficult for doctors to differentiate and is often misdiagnosed with arthritis, said Dr. Shankar. Unlike arthritis that causes inflammation in joints, fibromyalgia is not associated with any such symptoms, however causes pain, fatigue and decreases the work output, says Dr. Suralkar.
By following certain simple routines, you can minimize the symptoms and health issues associated with this condition. Physical exercise from mild to moderate including swimming, cycling, aerobics may help to reduce the pain. Moreover, proper sleeping routines, behavioral therapy also helps in overcoming this health issues.
As said by Dr. Suralkar, apart from the routine, it is important for you to change your work life. Do not stick to the system for long hours, ensure not to work in a stressful environment and avoid involving yourself in demanding jobs. In case, if you are uncomfortable with your working desk, chair make sure to change it.
So make a smart move and consider your health as the priority.
